Eiffage, a leader in construction and concessions in France and Europe, has embarked on an ambitious decarbonization journey with the creation of BlueOn, an innovative marketplace designed to set a new standard in the procurement process. This initiative is based on integrating carbon data on the same level as price throughout the entire purchasing journey.

Challenges: Digitalization and carbon measurement

Eiffage faced several challenges in implementing BlueOn, aiming to make environmental information accessible and understandable for all buyers. The initiative requires that all listed items provide a product-specific environmental declaration that complies with the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) method. The carbon footprint is therefore clearly displayed, calculated, and verifiable, providing reliable, standardized, and objective information.

The main challenges were:

  • Integrating reliable and verifiable environmental data into the purchasing process.
  • Digitalizing construction-specific features such as quotes, multiple orders, and product comparison tools.
  • Ensuring the platform's performance and usability for rapid adoption.
  • Managing carbon data on the same level as price, which had never been done before.
“No one would ever imagine buying a product without knowing its price. Today, no one should buy a product without also knowing its carbon footprint.”
Benoît de Ruffray, Chairman and CEO, Eiffagee

Solution: BlueOn is an operational response to the challenges of decarbonizing procurement

To address these challenges, Eiffage collaborated with DJUST to develop BlueOn. This platform offers an attractive and user-friendly interface that is fully integrated into the existing IT system. It allows buyers to select products based on a triptych of economic, technical, and environmental data, while digitalizing B2B processes specific to the construction industry.

“BlueOn is about providing access to reliable, verifiable, and objective environmental data.”
Jean-Luc Baras, Group Purchasing Director, Eiffage

The key features of BlueOn are:

  • A digitalized quote system integrated into the platform
  • The ability to place one or more orders from a single quote
  • A collaborative wishlist to ensure product recommendations
  • A product comparison tool integrating economic, technical, and environmental data.
  • CO2 reporting for every order line, providing a competitive edge with your clients.
  • Punch-out integration for a seamless purchasing experience.
  • 130 integrated mockups for intuitive usability.

Results: Growth and rapid adoption

The creation of BlueOn has digitized essential B2B features and set a new standard for the purchasing process. The platform now allows buyers to select products while considering their carbon footprint, encouraging manufacturers to conduct life cycle assessments to ensure the reliability of their carbon measurements and better reduce their impact.

“You cannot reduce what you do not measure.”
Jean-Luc Baras, Group Purchasing Director, Eiffage
